If you are a tea fanatic, you understand that storage is very important. If tea is stored improperly, it can go stale or it can even go rancid. Proper storage will ensure that your tea lasts as long as it can with the purest taste to it and making sure that you aren’t compromising the flavor is really important. You should know how to store your tea properly so that it is going to taste the best way and you can really enjoy each cup. There are five things that make tea go bad, they are light, air, heat, color, odors, and moisture. Avoid these and keep your tea fresh.

Dark Area

You want to make sure that you are storing your teas in a dark place. You never want to store tea in a glass jar or a clear jar, because sunlight will always get in there and the UV rays definitely break down your tea extremely quick. What you will also find is that sun can bleach your tea, which is going to drastically change the flavor or it and the aroma also. Keep your tea in a dark place is an extremely important factor.

Don’t Let Air Get In

Air is also an enemy of your tea, if air is able to get into your tea leaves that you have stored, it will allow moisture to absorbed into them which can change your tea. It will also cause odors from the air to be sucked into your tea and change the flavor that way too. Don’t leave your tea leaves out hanging in the air, or don’t leave too much air in the bag, it is just going to cause you to have an issue. Tea leaves are a porous material which means that air wants to get into the pores and wants to get air from, so avoid air at all costs to keep your tea fresh.

Heat and Tea

You will find that you want to keep your tea at room temperature or below. Heat is bad for tea and it will ruin your tea. So, make sure that you are keeping it out of areas with sunlight, which can raise temperatures, and also near stoves and ovens, which are going to create heat and are going to cause your tea to take on moisture.

Keep your Tea Away from Odors

Teas that are stored are susceptible to taking odors on. So, if there is a strong odor, your tea is going to assume it and it is going to taste like it, so you need to avoid that at all costs. This is how a lot of teas actually get their flavor is through absorbing the aromas that they encounter. However, this can cause you to have some issues also. You will find that the more odors there are in your house, the different that your tea can taste. Be sure that you are taking care of this so that it doesn’t taste like everything else that is in your house and it maintains that great flavor that you bought it for.

Keep Your Tea Dry

Moisture is bad and it is going to ruin your tea, it can even ruin it within minutes. If you let your dry tea leaves get into moisture or absorb it, it can quickly ruin your tea and leave you scrambling to get some new ones. Be smart and keep your tea away from the humid areas of your home such as your dishwasher, your refrigerator, and keep it in cool dry places where humidity just isn’t an issue.

Good Storage Ideas

The best thing that you can do when you are trying to keep your tea leaves safe and dry is that you can have the best storage from them. For storage, you want to make sure that these are opaque containers, so that they are going to be the containers that can’t pick up light. You also want to make sure that they are non-reactive metal containers or even glazed ceramics. You want containers that don’t have an odor to them at all. Do not use wooden containers or use sandwich bags, they are going to mess with the quality of your team.

You always want to make sure that with any container they have a tight seal that won’t let in any light, heat, air, odors, or moisture. A good way to ensure this is to use a double lid and to make sure that you are using things like odor-free plastics or silicone. If you found that you’ve purchased tea and it was packaged, make sure that it is transferred into a better packaged container.

Another great tip is don’t buy more tea than you can drink, you want to make sure that you have enough to keep you going but that it isn’t going to go to waste. You also need to know the shelf life of your teas so that you can keep up with them. The better you store your teas, however, the better that they are going to last for you. Find a great place where you can keep your teas safe from light, be smart, and separate your aromatic teas from the other ones out there. Do what you can to keep them fresh and tasting great.

Make sure that you are following the guidelines given to you throughout this article, using these tips will help you have the best tea out there. So, the next time you go to brew a cup, you are going to know that it is going to taste great and be fresh.

There are many different teas that provide numerous health benefits. One of the healthiest teas is hibiscus tea, also known as roselle, flor de Jamaica, karkade or sorrel. The tea is traditionally used as a mild medicine. In this article you’ll read about five most important health benefits of this tea.

1. Hibiscus tea lowers blood pressure
One of the most powerful benefits of hibiscus is its ability to reduce blood pressure.

In one study, conducted by researchers from Tufts University of Boston, drinking three cups of hibiscus tea each day lowered blood pressure of people with mild to moderate hypertension by an average of 7 points after six weeks of treatment.

In another study, conducted by researchers from the Bastyr Center for Natural Health in Seattle, Washington, drinking 16 ounces of the tea daily for four weeks lowered blood pressure even by 10 points.

If you have problems with high blood pressure, hibiscus tea can be as effective in treating hypertension as antihypertensive drugs.

2. It’s rich in vitamin C

If you’re ill, hibiscus can help you recover more quickly. The tea is rich in vitamin C which may reduce the duration of illness. Moreover, vitamin C enhances iron absorption, which is especially helpful for vegetarians and vegans.

3. It’s rich in antioxidants

Hibiscus is rich in antioxidants which destroy cell-damaging free radicals. Some experts believe that organisms age because cells are damaged by free radicals. Diet rich in antioxidants may not only improve your health, but also extend your life span.

4. It aids in weight loss

Consuming the tea after meal will help in breaking down starches and sugar. Consequently, it’ll aid you in weight loss. Drinking the tea can also increase satiety which is especially important if you’re on a diet. Moreover, hibiscus tea is a diuretic, so it elevates the rate of urination. The less fluid you’ll retain, the less bloated you’ll look.

5. It lowers LDL cholesterol levels and the risk of heart disease
Last but not least, a study performed by Shan Medical University’s Institute of Biochemistry in Taiwan shows that the tea lowers LDL cholesterol levels and the risk of heart disease.

As you can see, there are many health benefits of hibiscus tea. And I didn’t share with you all of them – only the most important ones! Hibiscus is used as a mild herbal medicine by thousands of people in many countries all over the world. You too can benefit from this great tea!

Have you ever wondered why so much attention is paid to tea ceremonies in the East? If you have ever traveled to either China or Japan, then you have no doubt encountered the cultural phenomena of tea drinking. China is the origin for the tea drinking cultures of most of East Asia. It is one of the oldest and longest lasting practices which most of these cultures have in common. When one examines the historical evidence intelligently, it is not hard to discover that the consumption of tea got started in China. Tea itself is a native to southern China. In order to appreciate the ways in which tea drinking can turn your Asian home or office into a beautiful place, it is necessary to explore the unique practice carefully. Tea drinking may have gotten its start in China but is was in no way limited to that region. Tea has been a vital part of the experience of many Asian cultures since then.

In Tang times (618-906 CE) tea became a national drink with an established custom in Buddhist monasteries. The idea was to prevent drowsiness in the monks during their times of lengthy meditation. In terms of archeology, tea has been found buried in several tombs with the dead. It was considered a “good” of the Han dynasty (206-220 CE) in the afterlife. There is also strong evidence which suggests that tea drinking began in China even before the time of Christ.

It was during the Three Kingdoms period (220-265 CE) Zhang Yi detailed in his book the specifics of tea production. The description was mostly related to the way tea was produced in both Sichuan and Hubei provinces. This included the processing of tea leaves into tea cakes. The poet Lu Tung (795-835 CE) wrote the Song of Tea. The song proclaimed the superior benefit of tea drinking. It was also about this same time Lu Yu (760-800 CE), the greatest authority on tea, wrote “Chajin” (The Classic of Tea). Ever since its debut, this writing has consistently remained the single most authoritative manual for tea consumers. It likewise describes the tools required to harvest leaves and process tea. In addition, the utensils to brew tea and a list of tea producing areas along with their respective gradings are included.

So how did China influence other Asian cultures to adopt tea drinking? Japanese monks Kubai (774-835 CE) and Saicho (767-822 CE) took a journey to China in 804. Their assumed goal was to study Chan or “Zen” Buddhism. This would take place in Tianmushan, Zhejiang province. However, this specific locality was very popular for tea production as well. Therefore, when the monks returned to Japan not too long after their visit they began tea plantation in their homeland. They brought necessary tea seeds with them back from China to do this. Naturally, this was in addition to introducing the Japanese people to Zen Buddhism.

During the early Heian period (794-1185 CE), Japanese literati adopted the custom of tea drinking from Tang China. The Japanese started to drink tea during social gatherings. Often, these social gatherings were accompanied by activities enjoyed by the educated and cultured members of society. These activities usually included such things as composing, reciting poetry, and playing music. It is easy to understand how tea drinking would thrive in this kind of social atmosphere. To make the point clear, it is obvious that China’s tea drinking and production of tea leaves gained influence in much of East Asia a very long time ago. It is almost like a social glue which permeates the entire region today. In the contemporary Asian home or office tea, along with its needed utensils, makes a very pragmatic and friendly contribution to the decor!

Did you know that drinking tea can help put you on the right track?

Tea has been widely recognised for its amazing health benefits such as:

o Boosting the immune system

o Decrease high blood pressure

o Reducing the risk of heart disease and lowering cholesterol

So how can drinking tea help me lose weight? Well, good quality loose leaf tea contains three components that work in conjunction with each other to increase metabolism and decrease your appetite. The components are:

1. Caffeine is a stimulant, making the heart beat faster and therefore helps you to burn more calories. The jittery effects of caffeine (associated with highly caffeinated drinks) doesn’t occur in tea as it is counteracted by the second component:

2. L-theanine is an amino acid that works to counteract the caffeine effects by promoting relaxation, improving

learning performance, heighten mental acuity and promoting concentration. Did you know for instance, that Buddhist Monks in China and Japan drink green tea because it helps them to keep mentally alert (caffeine), whilst the calming effect of the L-theanine is the perfect yin and yang: ideal for meditation.

3. Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is an antioxidant that stimulates your body’s metabolism which means you are actually burning fats as you are drinking tea! EGCG is said to lower the levels of triglycerides in the blood and inhibits the accumulation of fatty acids in the fat cells, thus making it a significant anti-obesity agent. Tea is high in antioxidants which help to protect your body from free radicals. Free radical damage has been implicated in diseases such as cancer.

Okay enough with all the science, already. Here are a few tips to help you on the way as part of your weight management programme:

o Find teas that you like and drink them all day.

With loose leaf tea, did you know that you can use the tea leaves again and again? Use use filtered water if you live in a hard water area, use the correct temperature of water for your chosen tea and ensure that you steep the tea for the correct amount of time.

o If you find yourself reaching for the biscuit tin, reach for a tea instead.

There are so many teas that are bursting with floral sweet flavours that if you have a tea, you’ll forget about those naughty snacks. Remember that tea helps to suppress your appetite so why not try a Tie Guan Yin Oolong tea that has hints of orchid; or drop a few Jasmine Dragon Pearls into your cup. For a vegetal and nutty flavour, why not try a Japanese Genmaicha (popcorn tea).

o Try cooking with tea.
There are many recipes that use loose leaf tea, so why not try experimenting today? Recipes such as Green Tea Steamed Bass, Lapsang Souchong Gravalax and Oolong Boiled Shrimp is surely going to tickle your taste buds as they are very low in fat and low in calories.

Remember, drinking tea alone will not help you lose weight, but incorporate tea drinking (without milk or sugar) as part of your chosen weight management programme.

Tea is the most widely consumed drink in the world, second only to water. While beer does have some health benefits (some beer is a natural source of prebiotics), there are certain teas that will provide several digestive health benefits.

Tea was first used in Thailand, Burma, Assam, and China and eventually was introduced to Europeans during their East Asia trading that took place in the seventeenth century. In fact, the first book written all about the cultivation, preparation, and consumption of tea was by a Chinaman named Lu Yum in the year 780.

There’s a bit of a tea revolution happening in the United States now and leading this charge is green tea because of it’s associated health benefits. This trend will grow and there are already other beverage products advertising great calorie-burning benefits which incidentally are deriving the key ingredients from green tea.

Green tea benefits

Although there are many studies still being done on green tea, some have been substantiated by western scions, even thought in Asia they’ve used it for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. daily green tea consumption has already shown to protect against heart attacks and strokes, and obesity. This is great news considering how much trans fats we still get from many processed foods.

From acne to weight loss

Green tea helps to stimulate cleansing of your cells and can rejuvenate skin cells that are dying. There are products available claiming it can heal acne.

As a weight loss product it can speed up your metabolism and acts as an appetite suppressant as well. These are legitimate weight loss benefits since increasing metabolic rate and reducing hunger cravings are two of the most common thugs we see included in many weight loss products on the market, both in the pharmaceutical drug and natural supplement variety.

Green tea can also help detox your body of the many dangerous toxins, chemicals, and other pollutants that enter the body through food and the air.

It can help digestion and has been used for years to relief certain types of minor gastrointestinal disorders. It’s antioxidants are believed to help fight cancer and help decrease inflammation inside the body which is a symptom of obesity.

Is it only green tea?

If you want to widen your choices for digestive health tea try yerba mate tea as well. This is similar in some ways as far as it’s health benefits. Yerba mate also stimulates cells, but of the fat variety. It’s also an excellent appetite suppressant and can increase your natural energy without the jitters and nervousness some people get with coffee.

The beauty of tea, much like coffee, is the plethora of flavors that one has to choose from when wanting to have some iced tea or hot tea. In this article, we will look into and discover the many varieties of tea that are available year-round and some that are seasonal!

There are many common types of tea that you have probably heard of once or twice in your lifetime. These range from chamomile to orange pekoe to plain black tea. These types of teas get more and more specific the more that they are mixed with each other and other flavors and leaves. Chamomile, known for its medicinal attributes, is actually a mixture of small daisy-like plants that are turned into tea bags. Mixed with honey and/or lemon, chamomile is great for helping you fall asleep.

This is not true for English breakfast blend teas, however. Primarily a strong blend that delivers a lot of caffeine to your system, English breakfast tea, a blend of leaves from Asia and Africa, helps you wake up in the morning. Other breakfast blends, such as Irish breakfast, have a similar composition and effect.

Christmas tea is the last tea we have room to talk about in this article. Christmas tea is certainly very different from the chamomile you have before bed or the earl grey you drink to get that early morning kick start. Usually Christmas tea is made from a variety of stock cloves and ingredients that mix together to taste like many holiday treats like gingerbread (a lot of holiday teas have ginger in them). For instance, some Christmas teas will use cloves, spices and orange and lemon zest to create a rich blend of tummy warming tea for sipping in front of the Christmas tree at night. A lot of Christmas teas mix in hints of chocolate and an overwhelming number feature mint as a defining taste for the blend.

For a large number of years, the Chinese as well as Japanese have long been drinking green tea. It continues to be attributed for helping fight off different forms of illnesses in addition to helping weight loss, and this brew has also been linked to fighting cancer.

Only recently, green tea started to be introduced to the west. And, people love them. A lot of people say that they never felt healthier in their entire lives, and health buffs even said that this tea is really a miracle drink. Ever since then, the whole world is currently drinking green tea for a regular daily basis.

So, is green tea really that wonderful? Does it really fight off cancer?

For starters, green tea has numerous benefits. The primary good thing about this brew is that it has antioxidants which can be recognized as a knight to fight off disease/cancer cells. So, to answer the issue on whether green tea can prevent cancer, the answer is yes. It eliminates free radicals from one’s body which leaves it free from toxins that will cause cancer.

This brew is filled with the antioxidant called epigallocatechin-3 gallat or what exactly is more often known as EGCG. Unlike black tea, green tea is absolutely not fermented, which preserves EGCG. For this reason, this brew is even more beneficial than black tea and includes more positive effect in fighting diseases, especially cancer.

So, what is free radicals? Body processes need oxygen. This element is abundantly found inside the air and with proper intake, it burns the glucose and fat present within the body to provide the needed heat and energy. So you can understand, oxygen is a very important element required by our body but anything in excess is harmful and too much oxygen can even have negative effects we previously do not aware of.

The byproducts of oxidation are free radicals. Sometimes, other molecules interact with the free radicals and so these molecules are also changed into free radicals which often can disrupt the normal functioning of the cell molecules. If this keeps on happening, it may lead to tissue damage and eventually cell destruction, causing degenerative disease.

One can extrapolate that sometimes the abnormal functioning molecules can cause certain degenerative diseases for example Alzheimer’s disease, rheumatoid arthritis, artherosclerosis, cancer, heart diseases, and Parkinson’s disease. Humans are quite fortunate because their bodies are pre-loaded with the right defenses in order to prevent the free radical’s harmful effects. How about if you are the unfortunate one? If your immune system gets sick? You may get diseases and even cancer.

It’s important to keep in mind that when free radicals enter our body, it will eventually have an impact to our cells. If this happens, it can make abnormal cells, which may end up in cancerous cells that could reproduce throughout your body creating tumors.

Apart from spontaneous production from our body metabolic process. Free radicals can enter your body in several different ways as well. It may be as a result of exposure to cigarette smoke, pollution, and it could possibly even be a consequence of exposure to excessive sunlight.

It’s important that we must always eradicate free radicals from our body so that you can keep your body healthy and cancer free. Although a number of food we eat contains antioxidant, you need to understand that it’s not likely enough to fight off the total amount of free radicals that enter our body. So how to counter free radicals? This is by taking in more antioxidants into your body. This really is where green tea comes in.

Because green tea has a superior concentration of antioxidants, it can fight off free radicals more effectively. With just three to four cups per day, you are able to ensure that you can probably keep your body healthy and cancer free.

Actually, green tea is so effective that even the National Cancer Institute conducted studies on this so-called miracle brew and located that it does assist in preventing cancer. Today, scientists have become investigating green tea as being a key part of making cure for cancer. In time, as a result of this century-old brew, we are going to see a cancer cure for the very first time.

One study even found the fact that antioxidants present in green tea was capable of shrinking tumors and prevented it from reproducing more cancerous cells and growing.

As you can see, green tea does help in preventing cancer. Considering the scientific studies being done with green tea today, it is just a matter of time that we we can see a cure for cancer.

Every country have more than one kind of tea, one of them is rooibos tea, The tea is made from the leaves of the red bush plant, Aspalathus Linearis member of legume family which growing in south Africa, in first rooibos was harvested by the Khoisan tribe, who harvested the herb for medicinal purposes and for its great taste, and most people in south Africa usually drink rooibos as tea without milk or other additive, natural rooibos taste is sweet.

In the late 1960’s a South African women, Annique Theron published a book about the benefits of the tea which caused a craze for the tea and its medicinal properties. In the last few years, demand for this tea has gone up by fifty percent. Most noticably drunk in Africa, Asia and Europe, it is finding its way into drinkers in the Americas as well. and recently many tea house in Europe and United States modified new taste of rooibos tea.
Thanksgiving is a true folk festival that finds poetry in the beauty of harvest and seed time, the turn of the seasons, the ripe products of the year and the deep connection off all these things with God. Indeed! Thanksgiving is the one day where the turkey is brought out and a meal fit for a king is served.

Are you one of those people who religiously observe Thanksgiving and go all out on a cooking spree to serve a fantastic meal? Then you need to know that ‘herbal tea’ is the ingredient of the year. But is it really possible to make a delicious, mouth watering meal from an ingredient like tea?

Yes! Deliciously naughty deviled eggs that are partially boiled and covered with a mixture of lapsang souchong and bits of herbal tea are the in thing for your herbal tea theme party. Surprisingly the tea, imparts a beautiful marbling effect on the egg whites, and adds that perfect dash of smokiness.

Broccoli casserole is yet another dish that’s prepared from a blow of rice and green tea instead of plain water. The green tea gives the dish a very natural and earthy taste.

After eating these tea kissed dishes, don’t forget to compliment the chef!

Today, the day of thanks is much more somber. It’s filled with meaning and it is a day where the most nonfunctional families come together to give thanks. The food served, has also undergone a drastic change, although the turkey still holds the coveted spot on the table. For instance, herbal tea themed Thanksgiving menus are gaining a lot of attention. Its easily become part of the holiday tradition in most families that give it a try.

Hors d’oeuvres start off with an organic loose leaf tea that beautifully compliments the baby root vegetables with Lapsang Souchong aioli. Next, mushroom cappuccinos are served in doll-sized tea cups.

The first course usually starts off with herbed yam and sweet onion tea sandwiches that blend in well with any type of herbal tea. Next, the Turkey tea sandwiches and pumpkin dumplings seem to be a great hit in every household. This can be followed by a Persimmon and mesclun salad with slivered almonds and complimented with a tea vinaigrette.

Finally, the main course starts off with a vegetarian stuffing and cranberry chutney, followed by a grilled tea-brined turkey. But it’s the herbal tea once again, that brings out all these delectable flavors.

Overall, this is a menu that will capture your senses, right from the first whiff up to the very last sip.
