Benefits of different kinds of tea?
June 28, 2010
I was wondering what are the benefits of each kind of tea? Like green, white, red….ect. If you know of a website or link that would be great too!!!
So far red and green are my favorite and love peppermint too!!
Thanks!
Polyphenols in tea have been known to:
Help protect cells from the normal, but damaging, physiological process known as “oxidative stress.” Although oxygen is vital to life, it’s also incorporated into reactive substances called free radicals. These can damage the cells in our body and have been implicated in the slow chain reaction of damage leading to heart disease and cancer.
Help prevent blood clotting
Help lower cholesterol levels
Help neutralize enzymes that aid in the growth of tumors
Help deactivate cancer promoters
Help stimulate the immune system
Apart from polyphenols, tea also contains a variety of ingredients that are beneficial to one’s health. These include theanine (an amino acid unique to tea), vitamins, minerals, and methylxanthines. These are the components that are the source of the healthful properties of tea. These are known to:
Help fight against mutagenic agents
Delay aging
Help fight high blood pressure
Help fight against viral and bacterial infection
Help improve the functions of the digestive and excretory systems

What are the health benefits of white tea?
June 26, 2010
Does anyone know what are the health benefits of white tea?
.
White tea has great anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties and is a powerful anti-oxidant. It also helps lower cholesterol, increases bone density, helps lower blood pressure and is generally a great aid to the whole immune system.
I have also noticed that it helps me not to burn when I go out in strong sunlight.
I drink both chinese green tea and also white peony tea.
I think they have equal health benefits, they seem to act in very similar ways.

Herbal Skin Care – Some Excellent Herbs For A Flawless Complexion
June 23, 2010
Taking care of your skin is an age-old topic which has been practiced from centuries when the only means available was use of natural herbal products. In recent times however, taking care of your skin has become very intense and has become a very lucrative business. The original herbal recipes for skin care which were used on daily basis during ancient times not much in use today. Not only that many people are not even aware of these products. Skin care by herbal products has been taken over by artificial and chemical based products because they are cheaper or may be people are not interested in taking pains to make them at home. This change may probably be due to change in life style or sheer laziness. Even herbal products are commercialized these days. These commercialized products are not as effective as they should be like freshly made product because of the preservatives added to enhance their shelf life. But now a days more and more people are choosing herbal products because they are natural. Nobody is interested in making them at home because of paucity of time due to hectic life style and hence the increasing demand for herbal products.
How do these herbal products work?
Extract of Aloe plant called Aloe Vera is the finest example of herbal product. Fresh extract of aloe Vera is natural moisturizer that sooths skin. It is also known to heal cuts and useful in treatment of sun burns.
Cleansing qualities are present in many herbs. Rosemary, chamomile, dandelion and lime flowers are some such purifier. Their skin care qualities come out with combination with herbs like tea.
Herbal products are known to have medicinal properties. Some herbs like fennel, lavender, thyme and marigold have antiseptic qualities. Lavender and rose water have proved to be good toners.
Tea occupies special place in herbal skin care. UV radiation damaged skin can be treated with Tea extracts.
Another skin care product is oils made from herbal extracts. Some well known oils used in herbal products are tea tree oil, lavender oil, primrose oil and borage oil.
Some shower gels use fruit oils extracts from fruits like banana, apple and melon.
Aroma therapy and Homeopathy also come under herbal skin care products.
Herbal products are not only used for the normal nourishment of the skin but used in skin infection like eczema and psoriasis. The main reason why herbal skin products have an edge over artificial products is they don’t have any side effects. Not only that they can be home made this makes them more popular. Thus herbal skin care products make the current craze. This does not indicate that artificial products are totally outdated. Some even argue with the dermatologist if an artificial product is suggested. It is true that some skin infections require to be treated with medically proven artificial products.
