Can anyone cite a study the shows health benefits of green tea?
August 10, 2010
Not really looking for opinions or anecdotes here. Just looking for randomized studies that show that drinking tea causes more <blank> or there is no differences detected in health between those who do drink tea and those who do not. Know of anything? Thanks.
Sure. Here’s a random smattering…
“Efficacy of a Green Tea Extract Rich in Catechin Polyphenols and Caffeine in Increasing 24-h Energy Expenditure and Fat Oxidation in Humans,” Dulloo AG, et al, Am J Clin Nutr, 1999;70:1040-1045.

“Green tea extract ingestion, fat oxidation, and glucose tolerance in healthy humans,” Venables MC, Hulston CJ, et al, Am J Clin Nutr, 2008; 87(3): 778-84.
“Association between soy and green tea (Camellia sinensis) diminishes hypercholesterolemia and increases total plasma antioxidant potential in dyslipidemic subjects,” Bertipaglia de Santana M, Barbosa DS, et al, Nutrition, 2008; 24(6): 562-8.

recipes for green tea cookies?
July 25, 2010
Being a green tea lover and all, I have tried green tea cheese cake and it was very good, so I thought I’d attempt to make one of my favorite staples – cookies, so I went all over google to try to find a good green tea cookie recipe and so far I have only found a couple for shortbread cookies. Not a fan. Anyone have any recipes to share? I’d appreciate it!
try substituting water with green tea water. i mean boil some tea bags of green tea, and use it instead of water. i think it should work.
it is better if you try a smaller portion so if it is not good you don’t ruin a whole batch.
Giving up soda. What are the health benefits of unsweetened tea?
July 25, 2010
I’m giving up all sodas and was wondering if there are any health benefits from unsweetened, cold tea? I don’t like sweet tea and don’t want all the sugar.
Fresh-brewed tea, green or black, does your health good. The University of Maryland Medical Center has a page linked below, but I’ll sum it up:
it’s shown it may help in treating or prevent over a dozen diseases, like atheriosclerosis, diabetes, and a variety of cancers. It increases metabolism because of both caffeine and polphenols. It’s got a bunch of other good chemicals inside with more research every day pointing out to something it helps treat or prevent.
Black tea have these, though not as many as green teas.
And I’d take a flyer on bottled teas. Usually it’s full of additives and sitting in a plastic bottle for weeks doesn’t help. Of course, a bottled unsweetened tea is still better than soda.
do you know any tea latte recipes?
July 15, 2010
are there any really good tea latte recipes out there that you can make with tea bags and not the powder? it could be any kind of tea… green tea preferably! try to make it simple! thanks
Ok, I worked at a coffee/tea shop for a long time. If you don’t want to put powder in your tea..but most important ingredient is WARM milk. Actually, half n’ half would be better..it would make it more creamy.
Also, you need good tasting tea. Try www.CUSTOMLEAF.com. You get to create your own tea blend.
I made:
Rooibos tea with chamomile, coconut peel, orange peel, orange flavor, and coconut flavor! YUMMY
Can you add a little bit of orange juice to green tea without it affecting the health benefits of the tea?
July 15, 2010
I only add a teaspoon of orange juice to the tea to give it a little flavor, but was wondering if the acid in the orange juice has a negative affect on the health benefits of the green tea.
Go ahead. Green tea’s benefits are not affected by this. You could also try adding honey.
However I would avoid adding sugar, Studies have shown sugar in most herbal remedies significantly reduce their effectiveness. And do not boil your water. It’s health benefits are reduced the most from heat, it is recommended that when steeping green tea that the water not be boiling and if it was, that it be given a few minutes to cool.
