Giving up soda. What are the health benefits of unsweetened tea?
July 25, 2010
I’m giving up all sodas and was wondering if there are any health benefits from unsweetened, cold tea? I don’t like sweet tea and don’t want all the sugar.
Fresh-brewed tea, green or black, does your health good. The University of Maryland Medical Center has a page linked below, but I’ll sum it up:
it’s shown it may help in treating or prevent over a dozen diseases, like atheriosclerosis, diabetes, and a variety of cancers. It increases metabolism because of both caffeine and polphenols. It’s got a bunch of other good chemicals inside with more research every day pointing out to something it helps treat or prevent.
Black tea have these, though not as many as green teas.
And I’d take a flyer on bottled teas. Usually it’s full of additives and sitting in a plastic bottle for weeks doesn’t help. Of course, a bottled unsweetened tea is still better than soda.

Tea is a good alternative if you’re quitting soda.
Traditional herbal drinks can be quite good for the body, it can help with stress.
However, it does contain caffeine so drinking large amounts of it regularly wouldn’t be a good idea either.
